Won‘t Dial Phone for Internet Connection

If Claris Emailer won't call up FreePPP to dial your Internet service provider, the option "Allow applications to open connection" may not be selected in FreePPP.

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.

Question: When I try to connect to my Internet Provider, it won't dial. I'm using System 7.5.3 and Open Transport and FreePPP.

Answer: Claris Emailer should activate TCP/IP, which then calls up FreePPP. If FreePPP is not activated and does not dial, first check to see if you can connect directly using FreePPP, by launching FreePPP Setup on your hard drive or selecting Open FreePPP from the FreePPP menu bar item and and clicking on the Connect button.

If that works, then launch FreePPP, click on the General tab and select the option: Allow applications to open connection.

If that option is not selected, then Claris Emailer will not be able to call up FreePPP to dial the phone.
