The "out of hard drive space" error in Windows 95 can be misleading; you may have plenty of room on your hard drive, but you keep receiving this error message every time you attempt to install FileMaker Pro 3,ClarisWorks 3 or ClarisWorks 4.
In the control panels, select "system/performance/file system/troubleshooting/", make sure that, "disable long name preservation for old programs " is unchecked. This option is intended for system administrators only and sometimes, mistakenly, has been checked.
When "disable long name preservation for old programs" is checked, the install program gets to a point and tries to install a file which has a long file name. When the long file name preservation scheme has been disabled, your machine will not recognize long file names. The install program responds to the flag, as if it was told to stop installing, and thinks there is not enough room to install the program, thus resulting in the "out of hard drive space error" message.
