Two-sided Printing

There are ways to print on both the front and back of your paper.

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.

Issue: How do I print on both the front and back of my paper?

Answer: Claris software, such as ClarisWorks and FileMaker Pro, do not have built-in capabilitiy to support two-sided printing. However, there are ways to achieve two-sided printing from almost any program.

1- You can print single-sided from your computer and make two-sided copies with a photocopier.

2- You can print the odd-numbered pages one at a time, then reinsert these pages back into the printer and print the even-numbered pages, again, one at a time. When reinserting the pages into the printer, the correct order and position will vary depending on your printer.

3- If you have an HP DeskJet 800 Series printer, you can use the version 9.1 printer driver. This driver has an option in Page Setup that automates two-sided printing. To update your printer driver, call HP. Or, you can download this driver from the Hewlett Packard Web site at
http://www.hp.com or from their forum on America Online (keyword: hp). Some other drivers may have this option, check with your printer manufacturer for the latest version.

TIP: When printing two-sided copies, you may want to go to the Documents command and click the checkbox for "Facing Pages". This changes the Left/Right margin controls to Inside/Outside margin controls.
TIP: When printing two-sided for a book, the odd numbered pages are on the right.

4- If you have a printer other than the DeskJet that uses a driver without two-sided printing support, you can purchase ClickBook (for Macintosh.) ClickBook adds two-sided printing to almost all Mac programs and is supported by most printers.
