Avery Label Sizes Not Available For New Database Layouts

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
ClarisWorks has a number of preset label configurations that allow you to easily set up a label layout in your database file for use with popular Avery label sizes.

These label sizes are normally accessed by selecting the Label radio button in the New Layout dialog box and then clicking on the pop-down list to choose the desired Avery label.

Sometimes, when clicking on this pop-down list, "Custom" will be the only option and none of the Avery sizes will be listed. There are three situations that can cause this to happen:

1. The ClarisWorks Labels file has been deleted from your computer's hard drive.

Use the Macintosh Find (or Find File) command (under either the File or Apple menus) to search for "ClarisWorks Labels" (without the quotes). If you locate a file, read #2 and/or #3 below to correct the issue. If you do not have this file on your computer, you will have to reinstall ClarisWorks in order to access the Avery formats.

2. The ClarisWorks Labels file has been moved to an improper location on your hard disk.

This file must be located either within the Claris folder, which is within the System folder; or within the same folder as the ClarisWorks program. If your ClarisWorks Labels file is in a location other than one of these, move it to either of these locations.

3. The ClarisWorks Labels file has been converted to something other than a Simple Text (or TeachText) file.

This file is used by the ClarisWorks program internally and is not meant to be opened directly (if you have a lot of experience with ClarisWorks you may want to edit this file to include additional label configurations, but this is not recommended). If the file has been inadvertently opened and saved using a word processing program other than Simple Text or TeachText (such as ClarisWorks or MacWrite Pro), it will no longer be accessible in your database. To correct this issue, either delete the file and reinstall ClarisWorks, or open the file and use the Save As command to save a copy of the file in Simple Text or TeachText format. Be sure to name the file "ClarisWorks Labels" (without the quotes) and to put the file in one of the locations outlined in #2 above.

NOTE: ClarisWorks 1.0 does not have any preset label configurations
