If you currently have stored mail in Claris Emailer 1.X that you wish to convert to the new database format, you may need to clear additional hard disk space prior to launching Claris Emailer 2.0.

2. Technical Notes and Tips

A. Open Transport

If your Macintosh is running Open Transport networking software, Claris recommends that you use the latest release version of Open Transport, currently 1.1.2. This software is available from the Apple web site at <http://www.info.apple.com>.

B. Versions of PPP

If your Macintosh is running Open Transport networking software and you have a dial-up connection to your internet service provider, please obtain the latest Open Transport compatible version of your PPP software. OT/PPP, Apple's PPP software, is available free of charge from the Apple web site at <http://www.info.apple.com>.

C. Next Message Command Key

The command key equivalents for previous and next message are command - [ and command - ]

D. Get All Messages from Server

In the account options for all Internet and OfficeMail accounts the button 'Get all messages from server' will download all messages currently on the server regardless of their status as read or unread.

E. Mail Database Recovery Option

Holding down the Option key as you launch Claris Emailer, will provide the option of rebuilding the database. This feature will repair any damage and compact the file to reclaim unused space. A backup copy of your current mail database will be saved automatically in the Mail folder in the Claris Emailer Files folder. (Note: For larger databases, this process may take some time.)

F. Marking Recipients as Unsent

You can resend any message to the same recipient by opening the previously sent message in Sent Mail or wherever it currently resides and then clicking the green check to the left of the recipient's name. From the resulting pop-up menu select "Mark recipient as unread". The message will send with the next connection to that account.

G. AppleScript for Converting 1.X Databases

If you choose not to convert your old messages when you first install Claris Emailer 2.0 an AppleScript for converting all your messages later is available. The script is located in the AppleScripts folder in the Support Files Folder in your Claris Emailer folder and is called "Convert Emailer 1". As long as the necessary AppleScript software is installed, simply double-click on the AppleScript and select your old Emailer Files folder.

H. AOL Address Converter

For those who are already using version 3.0 of the AOL client software, a separate address book converter is available from the Claris Emailer support page on the Claris web site at <http://www.claris.com/emailer>.

3. Compatibility Issues

A. Norton Disk Doctor

Do NOT run Norton Disk Doctor while Claris Emailer 2.0 is running. This can result in a damaged mail database and lost data. No issues will occur if Claris Emailer 2.0 is not running when Norton Disk Doctor checks the drive.

B. WebQuick WWW Menu Garbled

If you are running WebQuick by Europa Software (included with NOW). You must have the latest version, or you may experience garbled menus in the WebQuick interface. Europa can be found at <http://www.europasoftware.com>

C. Saving to PostScript File

Using the print dialog to save multiple messages to a Postscript file on your drive, may cause Claris Emailer 2.0 to quit unexpectedly. The issue does not occur when saving only a single file.

D. QuickHelp Issues

-There is a conflict with the version of QuickHelp that Claris Emailer 2.0 installs (4.0) and certain configurations of QuickTime. If QuickTime Musical Instruments is installed but disabled and QuickTime and QuickTime Power Plug are enabled, QuickHelp 4.0 will crash during startup.

The issue will not occur if all three are enabled or Musical Instruments is removed.

-If previous versions of QuickHelp are RUNNING when QuickHelp 4.0 is launched from the Help menu in Claris Emailer, QuickHelp 4.0 will not launch.

E. GTQ Scripting Additions

GTQ scripting additions (AppleScript software for PowerTalk) may interfere with AppleScript capabilities in Claris Emailer 2.0. Remove the GTQ additions to avoid issues.
