Problem:
Application specific macros (Shortcuts in ClarisWorks 4.0), customized Button Bars, Dictionaries (spell checking, auto-hyphenation, thesaurus), file translation, customizations to Assistants, and Equation Editor preferences seem to disappear when a new Mac OS is installed using the Mac OS Installer's Clean Install option.
Background:
Preference files for all of these features are stored in the Preferences folder in the System folder. (Document-specific shortcuts / Macros are stored with a document).
If a new Mac OS is installed using the Mac OS Installer's Clean Install option, the contents of the old System Folder are placed in a folder called Previous System Folder. Items moved to this Previous System Folder include the Claris folder, which contains spelling dictionaries, help files, translators, etc., and the Preferences folder, which contains preference files for the features above .
Solution:
To restore your customized tools and operations:
1. Quit the ClarisWorks 5.0 or ClarisWorks 4.0 application if it is open.
2. Move the Claris folder from the previous System Folder to the new System folder at the same level as the Control Panels folder and the System file itself. Then move all ClarisWorks 5.0 preferences files (if you're using ClarisWorks 4.0, there is only the ClarisWorks Shortcuts document) from the Preferences folder in the Previous System Folder to the Preferences folder in the new System Folder.
3. Launch ClarisWorks. All previously defined application-specific Shortcuts/Macros, customized Button Bars, specialized Assistants, and Equation Editor customizations should now be restored.
