Under certain circumstances, which are currently under investigation, the Word 6 translator does not show up in the ClarisWorks 5.0 Mac translator list, and Word 6 files cannot be opened using File/Open. In most cases, this occurs on machines that have or had Word 6 installed, though there have been unconfirmed reports of this problem manifesting itself on Word-free systems.
Claris Engineering is aware of this issue and is looking into it. In the meantime, the workaround is to drop-launch the Word 6 file onto the ClarisWorks 5.0 application. This will open the file using the correct translator.
Also, though "MS Word 6" does not show up in the Save As dialog box either, using the "MS Word [MacLink]" translator listed in the ClarisWorks 5.0 Save As pop-up will correctly translate the file into Word 6 format.
