Newer systems (based on the ATX main logic board standard) can automatically power-down when Windows 95 shuts down. Shortly after showing the "It is now safe to turn off your computer" screen, a software signal is sent that powers off the computer.
Windows NT 4.0 is capable of doing the same thing, but does not do so by default. To enable this feature:
1. Start RegEdit (regedt32.exe)
2. Scroll down to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows
NT/CurrentVersion/Winlogon
3. Edit the following item: PowerDownAfterShutdown: REG_SZ:0. Change it to PowerDownAfterShutdown: REG_SZ:1.
