With Mac OS 8.5, some applications draw menus with the Platinum appearance setting, while other application menus appear with a white background.
This issue resides within the third party applications. If an application uses an non-Appearance savvy menu definition (MDEF resource), it will get white menus.
Another possible, but less frequent, cause of this appearance, might be an MDEF virus.
