Mac OS 8.5: Adobe PSPrinter 8.3.1 Driver Conflict

Installation and use of the AdobePS 8.3.1 PostScript printer software on your Macintosh running Mac OS 8.5 can cause a system freeze or other printing related errors. For best performance, remove AdobePS 8.3.1 from Macintosh computers running Mac OS 8.5 and use LaserWriter 8.6 instead.
Note: AdobePS 8.3.1 print software may get installed via the AdobePS 8.3.1 Installer, or via other installers that accompany some 3rd party printers and applications.

After removing AdobePS 8.3.1 from your Extensions folder, check that the proper PPD for your printer is located in the Printer Descriptions folder. Apple printer PPDs may be restored by reinstalling LaserWriter 8.6 from your Mac OS 8.5 Installer.

PPDs for 3rd party PostScript devices are usually included in the software that accompanied the product. Alternate sources for PPD files include the product vendor web site, or from the Adobe web site at http://www.adobe.com/ .
