Mac OS X Server 1.x: Preventing a Client From Binding to a NetInfo Server

This article tells how to change a computer's configuration so that it does not attempt to bind to a NetInfo server at system startup time.
Note: This article pertains to Mac OS X Server versions 1.x, which were released prior to May 2001.

A client configured to bind to a NetInfo parent at system startup times out after a period of minutes if a NetInfo sever is not available. Depending on the number of interfaces, this may be longer on some computers. To prevent the client computer from attempting to bind to NetInfo, you can type this command while the computer is started up in single user mode:
Warning: the lituil command should only be used in single user mode. Otherwise, a NetInfo database that was open for use under multi-user mode could be rendered unusable.

Mac OS X Server version 1.2 does not include the liutil command. It is only available if the server has an earlier version of Mac OS X Server or if it was upgraded to version 1.2 with the upgrade CD.

Entering the lituil command with no parameters shows the proper syntax and parameters that liutil accepts.
