Note: This article pertains to Mac OS X Server versions 1.x, which were released prior to May 2001.
Symptom
The monitor on a computer with Mac OS X Server is black.
Solutions- Press any key. (The computer automatically dims the display when left idle; press a key to reset the display. You can set the dimming interval in Monitor Preferences.)
- Make sure the monitor is properly connected and adjusted. See the manual that came with your monitor for more information.
- Make sure the computer has a compatible video card. Shut down your computer by halting Mac OS X Server, then remove the video card. See article 60135 "Mac OS X Server: Halting the Server and Restarting From the CD." See article 30604 "Mac OS X Server: System Requirements" for information about compatible video cards.
- Make sure the resolution in Monitor Preferences is set to a resolution that works with the monitor.
1. Shut down your computer by halting Mac OS X Server
2. Restart the computer using the Mac OS X Server CD. This resets your monitor
3. Use the System Disk application to select your Mac OS X Server hard disk as the startup disk
4. Restart your computer
