Question 1: What are the hardware requirements for Mac OS X Server?

Answer: The following computers work with Mac OS X Server 1.2.


Note: Mac OS X Server 1.2v3 supports the same computers as Mac OS X Server and adds support for the Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet).

Question 2: To what extent does Mac OS X Server work with added third-party hardware?

Answer: The extent to which Mac OS X Server will interoperate with third party hardware and software varies from one product to another. Consult with the developer of the hardware or software in question to determine its compatibility with Mac OS X Server. The Macintosh Products guide at: http://guide.apple.com/ provides a forum for developers to showcase their products. It is an excellent starting point for those searching for specific hardware or software solutions.


Question 3: Will Mac OS X Server be available for Intel-based computers?

Answer: Apple has no plans to provide Mac OS X Server for any architecture other than PowerPC.


Question 4: Does Mac OS X Server 1.2 work with all the Power Macintosh G3 build-to-order options?

Answer: No. It works with ATA and SCSI drives, Ethernet, and limited USB (for keyboard and mouse). It does not work with serial ports, FireWire, or LocalTalk.


Question 5: Does Mac OS X Server include RAID?

Answer: Mac OS X Server does not include RAID software. However, it is compatible with a number of Ultra2 SCSI-based RAID devices, including those from MicroNet.
