Additional keyboard layouts have been added to Mac OS 8.6 to support Dvorak keyboards. A Dvorak keyboard is a keyboard whose keys are in different order than standard keyboards. For example, standard American keyboards start with the letters QWERTY. A Dvorak keyboard starts with the characters ',.pyf.
Dvorak keyboards are designed to be easier and quicker to use and with fewer mistakes. Using a Dvorak keyboard involves having to relearn how to type. The keyboard layout is a way that to get the functionality of a Dvorak keyboard without having to buy a Dvorak keyboard.
To select the Dvorak keyboard layout:
1. Open the Keyboard control panel.
2. Click the checkbox for Dvorak or Dvorak - Qwerty to select the keyboard layout.
3. Clicking the Options... button will allow you to specify Keyboard Menu Shortcuts used to toggle between selected keyboard layouts.
