Solution

To get back to your project:

  1. Change the resolution back to 800 by 600 or higher.
  2. Open iMovie again.

iMovie is designed to work at 800- by 600-pixel resolutions, or higher. It will not work at 640 by 480. While a movie is being edited iMovie will warn you not to select the 640 by 480 resolution. Changing the resolution to 640 by 480 automatically forces the application to quit. If any edits have not been saved, you will be offered the opportunity to save any changes.
