Installing Mac OS 9 on all Power Macintosh 6100, 7100, 8100 family computers requires that the computer be started up under Mac OS 9--usually from the CD. The Mac OS 9 installer makes sure that NuBus-based computers such as these are running Mac OS 9 before it will continue with an installation.
You can install Mac OS 9 on these computers by either:
- Starting up from the Mac OS 9 installation disc and then running the installer
- Starting up from an external hard drive that already has Mac OS 9 installed
Installing to an internal drive in one of these computers can be completed by:
- inserting the Mac OS 9 install disc on a locally attached CD-ROM drive
- sharing the Mac OS 9 disc from another computer, then connecting to that volume over a network
- copying the installation files to the same external hard drive the computer used to start up
