There is an issue with the way that Final Cut Pro 1.2.1 recaptures clips that are in PAL format. This article describes the incorrect behavior, as well as a workaround to avoid it.

Note: This issue has been resolved in Final Cut Pro 1.2.5. The Final Cut Pro 1.2.5 Update can be downloaded from the following Web site: http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/ .

Symptom

Users of Final Cut Pro and PAL devices may see an incorrect behavior when performing the following steps:

During recapture, Final Cut Pro attempts to capture all the clips that are used in sequences with more media than was originally captured, resulting in unexpected differences in the sequences in which they are used.

Solution

When capturing in PAL, always keep a separate log of clips in the browser. When you need to recapture the clips, follow these steps:

Note: If you leave these columns set with user in and out points, the batch capture tool will not recapture the entire original clip.

5. Recapture the clips in your new project.
6. When this is done, relink the files in your original project to the files you just captured. (For instructions on how to relink files, see page 269 of the Final Cut Pro manual.)
