Final Cut Pro 3: Issue Capturing Timecode Beyond Hour 23

Capturing video with timecode that extends beyond 23:12:00;00 can result in media with incorrect timecode information.
Symptom

Batch captured clips appear with no media connected. Trying to import the clip results in "File unknown" alert. Reconnecting the clip results in no connection to media. Capture displays hour 0 as its current timecode.

Solution

Final Cut Pro 3.0.4 addresses this issue. The update to Final Cut Pro 3.0.4 is available from this document "Final Cut Pro 3.0.4 for Mac OS X: Information and Download."

If you are unable to update to Final Cut Pro 3.0.4 at this time, then there are several options available listed below.

Capture the video using Capture Now. Capturing in this way results in a timecode track that is always 0, which is undesirable if you will need to recapture any of your clips (if you're doing an online edit, for example).

OR

Duplicate the tape to another tape with new timecode. This requires two compatible video decks and incurs generation loss if analog I/O is used.

OR

Restripe the timecode if your video deck has this capability.
