Mac OS 8.6: JPEG Pictures and Movies Appear Blank With QuickTime 5.0.5

Symptom

JPEG pictures or motion JPEG files appear blank or have poor playback.

Solution

Delete the QuickTime JPEG Update file from the Extensions folder by following these steps:

1. Open the System Folder.
2. Open the Extensions folder.
3. Open the QuickTime Extensions folder.
4. Drag the QuickTime JPEG Update file to the Trash.
5. Choose Empty Trash from the Special menu.
