iTunes: About Using Audible Spoken Word Files

You can use iTunes 3 and iTunes 4 to listen to Audible spoken word files, including audio books, spoken magazines, and newspapers.
iTunes 3 and iTunes 4 can play Audible spoken word files (format 2, 3, and 4 only). For more information about these files, see the Audible Web site (http://www.audible.com/).

Once you have downloaded an Audible file, you can add it to your iTunes library just like you add any other file. Note: iTunes does not have a feature that allows you to listen to streaming Audible files.

To make sure that iTunes is selected as the application you want to use to listen to Audible files:
If an Audible file does not open in iTunes when you double-click it, you can open the file by dragging its icon on top of iTunes' icon in the Dock.

Using Audible files with iTunes counts as an additional Audible account. If you have exceeded your account limit, contact Audible for help.

iTunes can only sync Audible files to iPod. It cannot sync them to other kinds of portable players that are compatible with iTunes.

If you connect iPod to a computer using iTunes 2, iPod won't be able to play Audible files until you connect it to a computer using iTunes 3 or later. Important: In order to play Audible files on iPod, you must install iPod 1.2 software or later.
