iPod Software 1.2 introduces a Clock feature. It displays the time and date.
Follow these steps to view the clock:
1. Select Extras from the main menu.
2. Select Clock from the Extras menu.
Important: iPod does not have a backup battery to preserve the date and time if the battery fully discharges. If that happens, you should charge the battery, then reset the time and date.
Clock Synchronization with Mac OS X
If you connect iPod to a computer that has Mac OS X 10.2 (or later) installed, iPod's clock is synchronized to the date and time of the computer. This does not require that you open iTunes.
Note: If the computer's date and time are incorrect, iPod's clock will also be incorrect.
Clock Settings
There are two settings that are associated with the clock that can be changed in the Date & Time settings:
- Set Time Zone
- Set Date & Time
Set Time Zone
Follow these steps to set the time zone:
1. Select Settings from the main menu.
2. Select Date & Time from the Settings menu.
3. Select Set Time Zone from the Date & Time menu.
4. Select your time zone from the list.
Important: The "time zones" that iPod uses are not really time zones. They are Universal Coordinated Time (UTC) offsets. For this reason, several actual time zones are "missing" (such as the three Australian and New Zealand time zones). If your time zone is not listed, you should choose the city/zone/place that represents the UTC offset for your time zone.
Time Zones for regions are not in alphabetical order. They are in "world order," starting at the international date line and moving eastward.
When using iPod's Calendar, it is important that the time zone be set correctly for the calendar alarms to work.
Set Date and Time
Follow these steps to set the date and time:
1. Select Settings from the main menu.
2. Select Date & Time from the Settings menu.
3. Select Set Date & Time from the Date & Time menu. The hour will highlight, displaying up and down arrows.
4. Scroll to change the hour, then press Select. Each setting will highlight in turn, and you set it in the same fashion.
5. After setting the year, press the Select button to return to the Date & Time menu.
There are no settings to change the way either the date or time is displayed. You cannot choose to display a 24-hour clock, and if you choose English as your default language, the date will be displayed as DD Month YYYY.
Depending on the language iPod is set to use, the date and time format will change accordingly.
