As shipped from the factory, iPod's hard disk is formatted as a Mac OS Extended format (HFS Plus) volume. When you connect iPod to a PC, iPod for Windows 2.0 software reformats the disk using the Windows (FAT32) format. If iPod does not appear in MusicMatch the first time you connect it after installing the software, the disk may be still formatted as a Mac OS Extended disk. You can check the disk format in the About Screen in the Settings menu. If it does not say "Windows" then reinstall the iPod software and check again to make sure it formatted the disk using the Windows (FAT32) format.
If iPod still does not appear in MusicMatch, close MusicMatch and reopen it. If iPod still does not appear, use the Windows Safe Remove feature to remove iPod, wait until disk activity stops on iPod, then disconnect and reconnect iPod.
If iPod does appear in MusicMatch, but its screen says "Do not disconnect," open iPod Manager and make sure MusicMatch Jukebox is the Home Application. If it is not, click "Change Home Application," and select "MusicMatch" from the dropdown box. Stop iPod by clicking on the disk eject icon in the system tray. (It has a disk icon with a green arrow pointing to the left on top of it.) Select "Stop IEEE 1394 Device". Wait for the "Safe To Remove Hardware Device" message to appear and click OK. Unplug iPod then reconnect it.
If iPod does appear in MusicMatch, but you see menus on iPod's screen, make sure disk mode is turned on. Click on iPod Manager in the system tray, or open it by choosing Start Menu > Programs > iPod > iPod Manager. Make sure the "Enable disk Mode" option is selected, then disconnect and reconnect iPod.
If your iPod does not appear in MusicMatch, check to make sure you can view the contents of iPod's hard disk in Windows Explorer. If you can't, reset iPod. See technical document 61705, "
iPod: How to Reset" for instructions. If you've made sure iPod's disk is formatted for Windows (see the first step in this document), and you've made sure you have the latest updates from Microsoft installed on your computer, also make sure iPod appears in Device Manager and is working properly. (There no yellow exclamation point or red X over its icon.) If it does not, reconnect iPod, open the iPod Updater application, and follow the instructions to restore iPod to factory settings.
