There is no way to create a ProDOS 8 or ProDOS16 Desktop disk on a 5.25 floppy:
there is just not enough disk space. However, a startup P8 (ProDOS 8) disk can
be created. As an example, below are instructions of how to create a startup
ProDOS 8 System Utilities disk.
1. Format a 5.25 disk
2. Copy these 5 files from System Utilities to the 5.25 disk:
a. P8 (ProDOS 1.2, found in the SYSTEM sub-directory)
b. SYSUTIL.SYSTEM *
c. GSSU0 *
d. GSSU1 *
e. GSSUE1 *
* These 4 files comprise the System Utilities program and can be found in the
SYS.UTILS sub-directory. They must be kept in the same directory.
3. Rename the file 'P8' to 'PRODOS'
System Utilities may now be booted from the floppy disk. The files take up
around 180 blocks and leave about 100 blocks for extra file storage.
