WebObjects 4: Oracle Adaptor for Mac OS X Server

The Oracle adaptor described in this article has been included in WebObjects 4.0.1 Patch 2 and subsequent patches. Please see the WebObjects Current Patch List, article 70037, for information on the most current patches for WebObjects and Enterprise Objects Framework. Apple recommends that WebObjects 4.0.1 users install the current patch rather than downloading the Oracle adaptor directly. This obsolete article is provided here as a convenience to our customers who have not yet upgraded to the most current patch level.
Note: Any reference in this article to Mac OS X Server pertains to version 1.2, which was released prior to May 2001.

About This Patch


This is an update to WebObjects 4.0.1 for Mac OS X Server. The Oracle Adaptor allows WebObjects applications on Mac OS X Server to access Oracle database servers on the network. This package contains no changes for WebObjects on other platforms.


Installing the Oracle Adaptor for Mac OS X Server

1. Download the adaptor from Apple's FTP site at ftp.info.apple.com.

2. Uncompress the Mac OS X Server package file. Your web browser or FTP client may perform this step for you.

3. Log in as root. If you're not sure how to log in as root, see your system administrator.

4. Double-click on the OracleEOAdaptorUpdate.pkg file. Make sure that no other applications are running before you do this step.

5. Click the Install button in the Installer package window. An Install Package panel will open.

6. Click 'Install' in the Install Package panel and, when prompted for confirmation, click OK to proceed. The Installer window displays information about the progress of the installation, which may take several minutes.

7. Find the WOInfoIndexer executable in the Workspace Manager and double-click on it. This runs an indexing script so that Oracle Adaptor documentation will be available through WOInfoCenter.
