iMovie 3: Some Graphic Files Import as Blank (White) Clips

Symptom

After placing a PICT format picture into the iMovie project timeline, the photo renders and turns into a blank, white clip.

Solution

1. Use Preview, iPhoto, or another application to export or convert the PICT format picture to another format such as JPEG or TIFF.
2. Import the JPEG or TIFF image into the iMovie 3 project instead of the PICT file.
