iPod Software 1.2.6 Update Requires Additional Steps

Symptom

The iPod Software 1.2.6 Updater cannot be installed according the instructions provided with the download.

Note: The English instructions provided on the software download page have been updated to reflect the additional steps required.

Solution

Follow these steps after you have downloaded the update:

1. Double-click the file named "iPod126.dmg". The iPod Software 1.2.6 Updater volume appears in the Finder.

2. Open the iPod Software 1.2.6 Installer. In Mac OS X it is called "iPod126.pkg". In Mac OS 9 it is called "Apple SW Install".

3. Select the startup disk as the destination. The installer copies the iPod Software 1.2.6 Updater folder to the Utilities folder and quits.

4. Connect iPod to your computer.

5. Open iTunes. iTunes updates iPod automatically. If this does not happen, use the manual process below.

6. When prompted, unplug iPod from the FireWire cable, then plug it back in to complete the update process.
