iPod (Click Wheel) has long sync times or freezes with some PC FireWire connections

Is your iPod transferring music or data slowly when you connect it to your PC using FireWire? Keep reading to get your iPod into the fast lane!
If you notice your iPod (Click Wheel) taking a long time to sync music or data, or even freezing if it's in Disk Mode, check what kind of FireWire bus host controller or onboard controller you have on your PC.

You can check this by using the Device Manager. To get to Device Manager:

  1. Right-click on My Computer and select Manage.

  2. Choose Device or Device Manager.

Under IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers, if it says VIA, you have a VIA chipset.

If your computer has a VIA chipset FireWire connection and a USB 2.0 connection, the USB 2.0 connection may provide a faster throughput for data transfer. You can try the USB 2.0 port if you have one or you can download the most recent iPod software update which addresses this issue.
