iPod (touch wheel): How to Reinsert the FireWire Port Cover

This document describes the FireWire port cover on the iPod with touch wheel, and explains how to reinstall it if it is accidentally removed.
The iPod with touch wheel models come with a FireWire port cover attached to the case. (See Figure 1.)

The FireWire port cover fits in iPod's FireWire port when it is not in use. The FireWire port cover protects the port from debris and the environment.

Installing the FireWire Port Cover

The FireWire port cover comes attached to iPod. You should not remove the FireWire port cover.

If the FireWire port cover is forcibly removed, it may be possible to reinsert it.

To reinsert the FireWire port cover:

1. Correctly orient the FireWire port cover.

2. Press firmly down on the plug to reinsert into the case:

If you cannot reinsert the FireWire port cover after performing these steps, it may need to be repaired. You can arrange for repair at the iPod Service Web site (http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/).
