Slow performance when using the iTunes Store on a dial-up connection

If you connect to the iTunes Store using a dial-up connection over a phone line, music previews might sound odd or they might not play at all.

The iTunes Store rocks with a high-speed (broadband) Internet connection like DSL or cable modem. Broadband is the best way to experience the iTunes Store, but if for whatever reason you can't get a high-speed connection, there is something you can do to get the previews to play.

  1. Open iTunes and then go to the iTunes Preferences:
Windows: On the Edit menu, click Preferences.
Mac: From the iTunes menu, choose Preferences.
  2. Click the Store tab at the top of the window.
  3. Check the "Load complete preview before playing" checkbox.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Try previewing the song again.

Because the preview will download completely, the preview should sound great when you play it.

Tip: The preview is a small segment of the song on the iTunes Store. If the preview doesn't sound right to you, even after the it loads completely, the song probably won't sound right, either.
