When burning a DVD-R disc, iDVD goes through four stages.
Stage 1 Preparing
Stage 2 Menu Rendering and Encoding
Stage 3 Asset Encoding
Stage 4 Multiplexing and Burning
The amount of time it takes for the disc to be created depends on the amount of video on the disc and the type of computer. On average, it takes two to four minutes to convert one minute of video into DVD format and write it to the disc. This means that on the first pass, an iDVD project that includes an hour of video may take up to 4 hours to burn to a DVD-R disc. If you are creating multiple discs, the second and subsequent discs will be created faster because iDVD only has to convert the video once.
