iTunes for Windows: Ellipsis Appears as as Black Box

Black boxes appear in iTunes for Windows in place of the ellipsis character (...).
Symptom

If you upgraded to Windows 2000 from Windows 98, the default font may still be set to MS Sans Serif, which does not have the ellipsis character.

This happens when the system font is set to MS Sans Serif.

Solution

Use "Display Properties" to change the system font to one that includes the ellipsis character, such as the Tahoma font.
  1. Click the Start button, then point to Control Panel.
  2. Click Display.
  3. Click Appearance.
  4. From the Item pop-up menu, choose Menu, then from the Font pop-up menu, choose Tahoma (Figure 1).
  5. From the Item pop-up menu, choose Message Box, then from the Font pop-up menu, choose Tahoma.
  6. From the Item pop-up menu, choose Selected Items, then from the Font pop-up menu, choose Tahoma.
  7. From the Item pop-up menu, choose Tool Tip, then from the Font pop-up menu, choose Tahoma.
