Final Cut Pro 4: Media End Point Is Incorrect After Recapturing 29.97 Video Into 23.98 Sequence

Learn how to address inaccuracies caused by recapturing 29.97 video into a 23.98 sequence.
Symptom

An inaccurate calculation results in the Media End point for each clip, giving it an earlier timecode.

This can happen when using Media Manager to create a new 23.98 offline project from an existing 23.98 project and capturing clips in the new 23.98 offline project at 29.97 fps and then applying the Remove Advanced Pulldown option to this 29.97 media.

Solution

  1. Select the affected clips in the Browser.
  2. From the Modify menu, choose Make Offline.
  3. Select the option to "Leave Them on the Disk" and click OK.
  4. From the File menu, choose Reconnect Media.
  5. In the Reconnect window, locate the clips on disk and click Choose.
