Your iPod has a sticky residue on it after removing the protective shipping materials
After removing the clear, protective shipping material from your iPod mini or iPod (Click Wheel), there may be some sticky residue left on the click wheel.
Follow these steps to remove the residue:
Slide the iPod's Hold switch to the "Hold" position.
Take a piece of clear adhesive tape and stick it on the click wheel. Carefully pull the tape off making sure to remove some of the residue with it. Repeat this process until the majority of the residue is gone. Standard household tape will work fine.
Put a few drops of isopropyl alcohol on a soft, lint-free cloth.
Do not put the cleaning solution directly on the iPod.
Do not use paint thinner of any kind.
Do not use nail polish remover of any kind.
Do not use denatured alcohol.
Do not use any ammonia-based cleaner, such as glass cleaner.
To prevent excess alcohol from getting inside the iPod while cleaning it, hold your iPod upside down so that the click wheel is facing the floor.
Gently rub the iPod's affected areas (from the center to the edges) to remove any sticky residue. Avoid excessive contact with the screen area. Repeat as necessary.
Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to remove any finger prints or smudges.
When you've finished cleaning, slide the iPod's Hold switch out of the locked position.
If your iPod doesn't respond or seems unresponsive when you wake it from sleep and turn off the Hold switch, wait about 30 seconds, then see if your iPod recovers and works normally.
If iPod does not start working normally after about 30 seconds, take these steps:
Slide the Hold switch to the locked position (toward the headphones port).
Slide the Hold switch to the unlocked position (away from the headphones port).
