PowerBook: How To Print From External Modem Port

I have been trying to print directly from my PowerBook 160's modem port to a StyleWriter and an ImageWriter II. Sometimes I get the message that the job is printing, but the job does not print. Other times, I get error messages. I do not have this problem with the printer port.
This information only pertains to PowerBook models that have two serial ports rather than a single serial port. PowerBook models that have two serial ports include most of the PowerBook 100 series computers (140, 145, 145b, 170, 160, 165, 165c, 180 and 180c).

For information detailing serial printing from PowerBooks that have a single serial port search for the article titled "PowerBook: Printing to Serial Printer-Single Serial Port."

TO USE THE EXTERNAL MODEM PORT TO PRINT TO A SERIAL PRINTER

PowerBook With No Internal Modem
Even though you will have one of the control panels described below in your Control Panels folder you will not see the choices described (internal/external, compatible/normal, use Express Modem/use External Modem) in your control panel because your PowerBook has no internal modem and external modem to choose between.

PowerBook With Internal Modem

System 7.0.1
System 7.1
System 7.1 w/System Update 3.0, 7.1.1 or 7.5
Express Modem Software v1.5 or Later Installed
Apple Telecom 2.0

In the Express Modem control panel, remove the "x" in the box for the selection "use internal modem instead of external Modem Port".
