AppleTalk Remote Access: Need Phase 2 EtherTalk to Answer Calls

At home, I have a (host) Macintosh IIci with Practical Peripherals 2400 baud modem attached to a LocalTalk network. It's running System 7, with file sharing enabled (one user belonging to one a group called Remote Developers). This user has remote dial-in, connect and link privileges.

At work: I have a (host) Macintosh with a Practical Peripherals 2400 baud modem (modem port) attached to a Phase I Ethernet network using a Technology Works Ethernet (thin) card. It's running System 7 and has a direct Ethernet connection. This network consists of five Ethernets terminating at a cisco router. A number of KBoxes with LocalTalk networks are attached to some Ethernet segments. This Ethernet routes AppleTalk Phase I, IP and IPX packets. This network contains one AppleShare server, one QuickMail Server, and four Novell NetWare file servers.

When the host computer at home is set up to answer the modem, the computer at work can dial in, log on to file servers, and so on. This works fine with and without the call-back features enabled.

But when I attempt to configure the work computer to answer the modem, an error message says: "Sorry, the network connection you have chosen doesn't support AppleTalk Remote Access."
Technology Works Ethernet Cards (TechWorks NuBus cards) ship with Apple's EtherTalk software, both AppleTalk Phase 1 and Phase 2.

On a Phase 1 EtherTalk network, AppleTalk Remote Access allows you to place calls, but it WON'T allow you to answer calls.

You need to upgrade to Phase 2 EtherTalk to enable the Answer Calls or server option within AppleTalk Remote Access.
