Macintosh Portable
The original Macintosh Portable has a locking Caps Lock key. It clicks and locks into place in the down position when active like the keyboard used with most desktop computers. The Caps Lock extension does not work on the Macintosh Portable.
Macintosh PowerBook Computers
None of the Macintosh PowerBook computers have a locking Caps Lock key. The Caps lock keys on these computers do not make an audible click when you press the Caps Lock key.
- Some PowerBook models have a green LED (light) on the Caps Lock key. If this LED is illuminated, the Caps Lock function is active.
- Some PowerBook models do not have an LED on the Caps Lock key. On these computers, when the Caps Lock function is active, an "up" arrow is displayed in the upper right corner of the Menu Bar next to the Balloon Help icon. If this arrow does not appear in the Menu Bar, the Caps Lock extension is probably not properly installed in the Extensions folder of the System Folder.
Connectix PowerBook Utilities
If you want another indicator in addition to the light on the Caps Lock key itself, you can get a piece of software called Connectix PowerBook Utilities (CPU) which gives an audible clicking sound from the speaker when the Caps Lock key is pressed (it also provides may other features).
