A/UX: FMbackup Utility Restores .fs_cache After Crash (5/97)

This article describes the FMbackup utility you can use with A/UX.

FMbackup.sit is a useful utility.  It keeps a current backup copy of your .fs_cache (in compressed form) so that after a crash (toolbox or A/UX), it restores the backup copy before you restart the Macintosh.  You don't have to manually relocate icons, windows, and so on.

You can find FMbackup.sit posted on A/UX Support Server (aux.support.apple.com).  Here is the path:

      aux.support.apple.com (130.43.6.2)
         /usr/spool/ftp/aux.patches/unsupported/2.0

This version of FMbackup utility works under A/UX 2.0.1 and A/UX 3.0, but doesn't work properly under A/UX 2.0.  The README file included in the package gives the details.
