MacX 1.1: Using with System 7.0.x (6/94)

Can I run MacX 1.1 under the Macintosh System Software 7.0.x?
MacX 1.1 is designed for use with Macintosh System software version 6.0.x. You can also use MacX 1.1 with System 7.0.x with limitations, by following the steps in this document. (You do not need to perform these procedures if you want to use MacX 1.1 on System software version 6.0.x.)

IMPORTANT: MacX version 1.1.7 is compatible with System 7.0.x, and MacX version 1.2 is compatible with System 7.1.x. It is recommended to upgrade MacX.

If you're using MacTCP to connect your Macintosh computer to a host computer, you can use MacX 1.1 with System 7.0.x by following several setup procedures. These procedures describe several guidelines that let you use MacTCP version 1.0.2 with System 7.0.x.

Note: If you're using a connection tool other than MacTCP, the instructions in this document don't apply. For more information, contact the vendor of your connection tool.

To use MacX 1.1 with System 7.0.x, install MacX 1.1 and MacTCP 1.0.2 on your computer and then follow the instructions below.

1) Don't use Virtual Memory under System 7.0.x. Open the Memory Control Panel and make sure Virtual Memory is turned off.

2) Connect via Ethernet with MacTCP. For Token Ring access you must use MacTCP 1.1 or later with the MacTCP Token Ring extension.

3) Open the MacTCP control panel to make sure that the Ethernet icon is present and selected. (You cannot use a DDP/IP gateway via EtherTalk, LocalTalk, or TokenTalk.)

4) Make sure the MacTCP control panel, the AdminTCP control panel, and the Hosts files are in your System Folder and NOT in the Control Panels folder.

To copy these files to your System Folder, drag the icons for the three files to the open System Folder window. Do not drag the icons to the System Folder icon; the Finder will put them in the wrong place.

5) Restart your Macintosh computer to put these changes into effect.

You are now ready to use MacX 1.1 on your Macintosh computer running System 7.0.x. You may want to store this document in your MacX binder for quick reference.

Note: MacTCP 1.0.2 is not fully compatible with System 7.0.x. Apple Computer, Inc. does not therefore guarantee 100 percent compatibility and functionality.
