With A/UX, users have access to the wide range of Macintosh applications
available at local dealers -- the same application binaries that run on the
Macintosh OS. There is only one restriction: Applications must follow the
"Inside Macintosh" development guidelines for 32-bit cleanliness.
This is also a requirement for applications that run with virtual memory on
Macintosh System 7. All key industry software developers are moving in
this direction. Many already offer mainstream applications which are
32-bit clean and thus run on A/UX 2.0.1. This group includes Microsoft,
Claris, Aldus, and Informix. A complete list of applications is included in
the A/UX Third Party List on AppleLink under the A/UX icon.
As a transitional step, A/UX 2.0.1 also includes a 24-bit environment
which allows users to run many applications which are not yet 32-bit clean.
All applications that run on A/UX 2.0 also run on A/UX 2.0.1. The
applications categories include Macintosh, UNIX, X Window System, Motif
(from Integrated Computer Solutions) and MS-DOS applications (using SoftPC
from Insignia Solutions).
