Basically, the HoneyDanBer UUCP is a well-known UUCP implementation in the UNIX community. Its overall performance with A/UX 3.0 is better than the one we used in A/UX 2.0.1 and before. These are the differences:
- It supports TCP as well as serial links.
- The file structure of the UUCP system files under /usr/lib/uucp directory
are organized differently (new files and new formats).
- It adds more parameters and features for better control on dialers and
login checking sequence.
- Almost all the files (for example, Devices, Sysfiles, Systems, and so on)
in the /usr/lib/uucp directory have new formats.
- The new A/UX Network System Administration document for A/UX 3.0
describes more details.
The original HoneyDanBer UUCP didn't include the f-protocol. Because of requests for the f-protocol, A/UX 3.0 adds it in the HoneyDanBer UUCP.
The f-protocol is a UUCP protocol used to communicate over X.25 networks. The PAD dialer is a "real" dialer used to set up connections to remove X.25 destinations using MICOM or Motorola PADS, and will probably work on most other PADS.
