Tulin Hermit Crab Drive: Compatibility w/ Macintosh LC, Classic

I have a Tulin Corporation Hermit Crab external hard drive that uses power
from the external floppy port of the Macintosh. I can use the drive with
a Macintosh Plus, but it won't work with a Macintosh Classic.

Is there a known compatibility problem with this hard drive and the
Macintosh Classic?

Tulin Corporation is aware of a problem. Apparently, when the older
version of the Hermit Crab drive is connected to a Macintosh Classic or a
Macintosh LC, it does not spin up properly. Tulin indicated that the
problem is related to the amount of power the drive draws from the
Macintosh (12 watts).

Tulin does have a version of the Hermit Crab drive that works with the
Macintosh Classic and Macintosh LC. Contact them directly for more
details.
