AppleColor High-Res RGB Monitor: Voltage Range Label Error


Later model 13-inch AppleColor High-Res RGB Monitors no longer designate on
the back panel that they are compatible with voltages from 100 to 240. They
show only 110-120 volts. Have there been any engineering changes to this
monitor?

If the monitor is being driven from the power output on the back of a
Macintosh, will the correct voltage be delivered to the monitor even when the
Macintosh is plugged into a European power source?

The current specification sheet states that the AppleColor Hi-Res RGB Monitor
(model number M1297) supports a voltage range from 85 to 270 VAC, and a power
frequency range of 47 to 63 Hz.

There were some internal design changes in the revision B monitor, but the
voltage and frequency range remained the same. Most of the changes were made
to meet the Swedish guidelines for ELF emissions.

The back panel identification was an oversight when the labels were printed,
and the voltage range information was left off the label. Our engineers are
aware of the problem and this should be rectified in future shipments of the
monitor.

In regard to the power out of the back of a Macintosh II, the power supply
switches the power from the wall to the output plug. No voltage processing
takes place. Any device that has the power plugged into the back of a
Macintosh must meet the power requirements of that country.
