I have AMP's Thinnet tap system for Thinwire Ethernet. AMP uses a special
vampire-style plug in the wall and a cable running to the user's
workstation that plugs into the coax port on the interface card.
We had a problem with FriendlyNet. Since we have two ends, we either get
too many terminations on the network (two existing plus one automatic from
the transceiver), or reflections (if we open one end up by using a barrel
connector). Neither case led to a healthy network.
You need to use a 222814-1 Test Cable Assembly. This device provides two
coax cables that plug into either side of the FriendlyNet transceiver. AMP
is 802.3 compliant (the run from the faceplate to the user contains both
"ends" of the network).
